Board of Directors - Call for Nominations

Position: Board Member
Type: non-profit board position / unpaid
Organization: ReThink Red Deer
Location: Red Deer, Alberta

Founded in 2007 and officially registered in 2010, the Sustainable Red Deer Society (operating as ReThink Red Deer) is dedicated to enhancing the long term quality of life in Red Deer and surrounding area. This group seeks out and shares ideas that inspire citizens to make and create sustainable consumer choices - global in awareness, local in application. Members believe that we are citizens first and consumers second; that our world is finite and borrowed from future generations; that we can live sustainably and in harmony with nature; and that inspiration is a renewable resource.

Mission: We promote citizen-driven leadership by providing learning and practical opportunities for sustainable living in Red Deer and District.

Vision: We envision a community that is living sustainably.

Position:

ReThink Red Deer is looking to fill Board vacancies with community leaders who have expertise in non-profit volunteering, governance, and management. Particular skills we need are accounting, fundraising, marketing, and/or communications. We celebrated our 10th Anniversary in 2017 and have established many working relationships with organizations, businesses, agencies, and institutions in Red Deer and area. To help manage the growing number of opportunities in addition to our core projects and programs we need skilled collaborators and innovators who champion our values.

The role of the board of directors is currently administrative and we are in the middle of making the transition to a policy focus. The Board ensures the organization adheres to its mission through providing effective strategic direction, financial oversight, as well as guidance and input to the Project Leads and key volunteers. Board Members are expected to be active members of the Society by attending all board meetings, participating in the organization's campaigns and events, and by acting as good ambassadors on behalf of the Society, its members, and volunteers.

As volunteers, Board Directors are actively supporting the Society's Mission and Vision in their daily lives and commit approximately 8-10 hours per month to Board-related activities, including preparation for and participation in monthly Board meetings. Board members are elected for minimum 3-year terms, which may be renewed. All directors are required to be members of ReThink Red Deer ($15/year).

Application Deadline: Wednesday, March 20, 2024
