This is the first of five introductory timber framing workshops to help prepare the materials for the timber frame barn raising at the Piper Creek Restoration Agriculture Project! Led by seasoned timber framer, Wayne Froese (Top Peg Timber Frame Construction) and guest instructors, you will learn the history and basics of timber frame construction and get hands-on experience to help build a full-scale timber frame barn dubbed, "The Water Shed" at the end of September*

Morning: Perceiving the timber within your logs and urban logging with a focus on using the resources in our own 'back yard'.

Afternoon: Wood species and materials sourcing. After milling the logs, we'll process knee braces at the Piper Creek site... with hand tools only (no power tools), discuss tool selection, handling, and maintenance including the importance of learning hand tool control. We'll also share 3-D drawings of the knee braces with all measurements and angles.
