A series of workshops at the Common Ground Garden Project that is developing a publicly-accessible 4-season urban garden, fostering sustainable food security, connecting to the land, sharing seeds of knowledge, and growing an inclusive community.

 

Saturday, Sept 17 - 1pm to 3pm - Vermiculture (Composting with Worms) with Rene Michalak

Zero-waste living is where it's at! In this workshop we'll cover the basics of vermiculture (aka composting with worms) including how to build a functional worm composting bin out of simple materials and even more custom-made units ranging from the recreational DIY up to commercial scale production. Sourcing composting worms, basic troubleshooting, and best practices will be shared for keeping your worms happy and healthy, plus anecdotes of what NOT to do will be shared!

Rene is founder of Garbage-Free February, inventor of the Canadian Food Garage project, a certified permaculture designer and instructor, renewable energy electrician, and an urban agriculture and rainwater harvesting enthusiast with over ten years experience growing food in Central Alberta. He's also Manager of the Common Ground Garden in Red Deer's Capstone Development a self-proclaimed garlic-guru, and initiator of Garlic City Market, Red Deer's garlic festival, founded in 2017.
