Timber Frame Workshop #2 - The History and Techniques of Timber Framing

Saturday, July 20 - 9am to 5pm both days - multiple locations including the Piper Creek Community Garden site (40th Ave, south Red Deer)

This is the second of five introductory timber framing workshops to help prepare the materials for the timber frame barn raising at the Piper Creek Restoration Agriculture Project! Led by seasoned timber framer, Wayne Froese (Top Peg Timber Frame Construction) and guest instructors, you will learn the history and basics of timber frame construction and get hands-on experience to help build a full-scale timber frame barn dubbed, "The Water Shed" at the end of September*

Workshop #2 - The History and Techniques of Timber Framing  (subject to change) 

Morning: continuation of design and layout from Workshop #1 with a basic timber frame lecture and dialogue. Followed by the history of timber framing, the difference between it and conventional framing, wood moisture content, how joinery works, engineering thoughts, enclosures, labeling timbers, and introduction to power tools. 

Afternoon: Cutting the remainder of knee braces with hand tools and starting into post cuts with a focus on "tenons" where we'll start using power tools.
