International Permaculture Day 2019

International Permaculture Day (IPD) on the first Sunday in May (or thereabouts) is a day of celebration and action for permaculture around the world. It is a day when visitors can see these myriad initiatives, ask questions of their developers and decide for themselves whether the permaculture design system has relevance to the challenges we face and to creating communities that are resilient in the face of undesirable and unforeseeable impacts.

Now in its 10th year, International Permaculture Day has grown rapidly from its roots as a local Australian initiative to a global day of permaculture celebrated in over 35 countries.

ReThink Red Deer is showcases its Piper Creek Restoration Agriculture Project in support of IPD. A site tour is available at 12:30pm (for approx. 90 minutes) featuring the practice of restoration agriculture through the 15,000sq.ft Canada 150 Food Forest and Pollinator Garden, integrated pest (weed) management with grazing goats, and riparian plantings for beaver habitat restoration.

Alberta Open Farm Days

Alberta Open Farm Days is a weekend that brings Albertans together, and we want you to be our guest. You’ll come away knowing your rural neighbours a little bit better and how food gets from the farm to your table.

ReThink Red Deer participates with our Piper Creek Restoration Agriculture Project in south Red Deer. Please visit the project Facebook page for more pics and details.

Alberta Culture Days

Alberta Culture Days began in 2008 as Alberta Arts Day, a one-day event to recognize the value of Alberta's arts and cultural communities. There were 100 events held in 30 communities across the province, and a flagship celebration at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary. Since then, it has expanded into a vibrant, three-day, provincewide celebration that has helped inspire the creation of Culture Days - a pan-Canadian movement to raise awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of all Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities. Alberta Culture Days encourages all Albertans to experience how culture contributes to a prosperous, vibrant society.
